Yesterday I noticed an unfamiliar bird at the feeder. My curiosity piqued, I slithered outside and tried to look invisible with birdbook and camera in hand. Since I was about as camoflauged as an elephant in...anywhere...I didn't expect to get a positive ID. However, this little guy is quite bold as he completely ignored my presence and landed several feet in front of me to claim some suet for himself. This is where my status of too amateur to be called amateur kicked in as I fumbled with the camera and caused him to fly off before I could get the shot. I did manage to collect enough information to identify him as a chipping sparrow however. Hopefully I will manage not to ruin my photo op next time!
